I love a bistro as much as Michelin-starred restaurant.

It’s my first time to visit this small village Colmar. If you are a backpacker like me, it is definitely worth one day visit.

Of course I need a bistro or restaurant for lunch service on Sunday, but most bistros or restaurants recommended by the Michelin guide are closed on Sunday and Monday. Only this bistro is still open for Sunday lunch.

I made a reservation with email but they didn’t reply my second email. I thought they had my reservation records, but obviously I was wrong about it upon my arrival. Since I need a table for one person, it’s easier to deal with.

The waitress recommended either local sausage dish or Vienna deep-fried steak with French fries one customer next to my table order. I saw the steak was burned on its side, so it’s definitely overcooked. Also, I am not a big fan of French fries or sausages. Therefore, the waitress suggested the marinated chop pork leg with carrots.

The dish came with a big pork leg with skin above carrots. The pork chop is cooked with perfection because it can be separated with a spoon instead of the knife. The pork leg is supposed to be German specialty but since it’s the border between Germany and France, you can still have it in Alsace. The way of cooking is marinating here instead of deep-fried in Germany. In my opinion, this is the best way to eat these pork legs, and local French chefs know it. The carrots underneath absorb the fat of the pork leg and are soft and sweet. The side dish is roasted potatoes with cheese. It’s not seasoning, but I guess the chef did it on purpose because the salty sauce under the pork leg can get right balance with the potatoes.

Normally I can’t finish the whole pork leg by myself in Germany, but I succeeded to finished it here. It’s really yummy and totally worth it with the price 16 euros.
